What are Socratics sessions?

Socratics provide participants with an opportunity to present and discuss their work within their peer group. This not only provides students with an opportunity to practise their presentation skills, but also encourages critical analysis of their own texts. The participation of young scholars from all legal and related disciplines ensures and encourages inter- and transdisciplinary communication within the Ars Iuris Vienna.

Every paper will be presented shortly by two to three speakers, who will comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the text. The first speaker will also give a short summary of the content of the paper. Afterwards, all participants are welcome to give comments. At the end, the author will have five minutes to reply to the feedback.

Socratics sessions are often part of a retreat. The doctoral students regularly travel to Schloss Seggau in Leibnitz (in autumn), to Haus im Ennstal for skiing or to Strobl am Wolfgangsee. As part of the programme in Strobl the Fellows also participate in the Sommerdiskurs.
